In 2010 he began studying classical percussion with Joaquim Alves, and in 2012 he completed Grade 5 at the Conservatório de Música de Gaia with Paulo Costa. In 2015 he began the degree in classical percussion at the University of Minho, under Nuno Aroso, graduating in 2019.

He began teaching in 2008, leading a percussion group at CERCIAG. He has led introductory workshops in traditional Portuguese percussion at music schools across Portugal, including the conservatoires of Amarante, Porto, Maia and Cinfães, Academia de Música de Alcobaça and Vale do Sousa, as well as at Dias da Percussão in Portimão and BOTA in Lisbon.

In that recital he began exploring traditional Portuguese music from an art-music perspective, combining folk and contemporary instruments. He has also premiered works by other Portuguese composers, including Eurico Carrapatoso's “Tu Es Petrus”, Luís Figueiredo's “Al Gharb” for solo adufe, piano and percussion ensemble, and Filipe Fernandes's “Ribombar” for solo drum and percussion ensemble, inspired by the world of the Zés Pereiras.

AS AN AUTHOR AND IN OTHER FIELDS

With anthropologist Napoleão Ribeiro, and with support from DGArtes (Portuguese Ministry of Culture), he co-authored “Os Zés Pereiras” (Tradisom, 2022), a book on the musical culture of the Zés Pereiras between the Douro and Minho rivers, launched in 2023. That year he also composed and directed the music for “Lear”, a theatre production directed by Bruno Martins and co-produced by Teatro do Bolhão, Teatro da Didascália, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and Casa das Artes de Vila Nova de Famalicão. In September 2025 he joined Portuguese choreographer Clara Andermatt's new creation, Do Terreiro ao Mundo, as percussionist and performer.
