A contemporary look at Portugal's rhythmic and percussive heritage.
After two decades of study, training and work in roots music, Tiago Manuel Soares performs solo, with traditional Portuguese percussion at the centre of the narrative of a pioneering multimedia show.
Nativo sets out to discover new aesthetics and offers a contemporary view of the diversity of this intangible heritage, through the eyes of today's artists who keep a deep connection to their roots.
The show premiered on 22 March 2025 at the Centro Cultural Municipal de Vila das Aves, with compositions by Fernando Lapa, Ângela da Ponte and Filipe Fernandes, marking a passage from tradition to new aesthetic horizons. The visual creation by Adriana Romero draws on video footage gathered from the north to the south of the country, in dialogue with the artistic world of the project.
On 13 December 2025, Tiago Manuel Soares presented Nativo at Laboratório das Artes, Teatro da Vista Alegre, in Ílhavo. The performance was recorded and gives rise to this edition.
Accompanying this recording is a mini-documentary on the creative process of Nativo, covering its different stages: research, experimentation and artistic creation.
